Innsbruck is Austria's fifth largest city, located on
Inn River in the Alps of western Austria. It
occupies a strategic and picturesque location
in the Inn Valley, surrounded by mountains exceeding
2000m. Some of the peaks are accessible by cable
car and offer impressive panoramas. In the city
itself, the Golden Roof in the old town is the
most well-known landmark - it was a balcony
for the imperial court. The imperial palace
and church, the Hofburg and Hofkirche, are also
reminders of Innsbruck's golden era.

On the
edge of Lake Wörthersee, Klagenfurt boasts a wonderful
warm sunny climate, plenty of attractions and
an historic centre dating back 800 years. Beautiful
Italianate courtyards are among the most outstanding
of Klagenfurt's attractions and historic arcades
house an excellent selection of cafes, shops and
restaurants. Visit the Cathedral, impressive baroque
parish church the mighty west tower and the city's
oldest house, the 'Goldene Gans' in the Alter
Platz. Klagenfurt offers many parks and the 500
year old Lend canal links the city centre to Lake
Wörthersee. The towpath is a popular route for
cyclists and strollers. 'Minimindus', features
the world's most famous landmarks in miniature
and the attractive grounds are used for open-air
concerts and special exhibitions throughout the
summer.

Cards:The credit cards most widely accepted in
Austria are American Express, Diners Club, Master
Card or Visa. Oil company credit cards are not

Climate:The
climate is moderate and generally agreeable. Temperatures
depend largely on altitude, with averages 5°C
lower for each additional 300 m of elevation;
the long-term average maximum and minimum temperatures
of Salzburg (435 m) are good examples: 1/-5º in
January, 15/5º in April, 25/15º in July, 14/5º
in October. Summers can be hot, with temperatures
occasionally reaching 37°C, summer evenings are
usually cool. May, September and the first half
of October tend to be the driest months, April
and November the wettest periods. From June through
August, rain usually comes in the form of thunderstorms
. The winter snow cover lasts from late December
through March in the valleys, from November through
May at about 1,800 m, and becomes permanent above
about 2,500 m.
